Davao's Poor Get Free Wheelchairs
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – House Speaker Prospero Nograles donated wheelchairs to 20 poor residents in Davao City’s First Congressional District.
Lawyer Karlo Nograles, the solon’s son, represented him and handed the wheelchairs in a simple ceremony attended by local officials. He said the donation of the wheelchairs is part of the so-called “Oplan Kalusugan” program of the House Speaker aimed at helping the poor by providing them access to health services.
"The congressman wanted to offer relief to the disabled residents in the first district that made him initiate the wheelchair distribution program," the young Nograles said.
He said the wheelchairs were a big relief especially that most of those who received the donation cannot afford to buy a wheelchair. "Hopefully with these wheelchairs, our disabled constituents can enjoy life more," he said.
Nograles said the program has served a lot of poor residents in Davao City, particularly in the solon’s legislative district. He also urged poor residents to visit the local congressional office to avail many different humanitarian programs.
"Those who wish to avail our wheelchairs or other humanitarian programs just need to visit our office along Quirino Avenue here in Davao City or any of our village officials,” Nograles said.
