Attraction: This comprehensive museum of Atlanta's past
is located a few blocks from the Governor's Mansion in
residential Buckhead. Exhibits cover the gamut of the
region's history, including special sections on the Civil War,
Southern folk crafts, African-American history, and the Civil
Rights movement. The museum is surrounded by 33 acres of
gardens that feature the historic Swan House, the fully-restored
Tullie Smith Farm, and restaurants.

Atlanta Landmarks
 
Georgia State Capitol
Capitol Ave SE, (at Washington Avenue and Mitchell Street)
Attraction: Named a National Historic Landmark in 1977,
the Capitol is made of Indiana limestone and Georgia marble,
with a golden dome that rises more than 240 feet from the rotunda floor. 
The Georgia State Museum of Science and Industry is housed on
the first and fourth floors.

Centennial Olympic Park

Attraction: A 21 acre legacy from the 1996 Olympic games with
the world's largest Olympic Rings fountain.

Martin Luther King Jr. Center

Attraction: A few blocks to the east of downtown, the Sweet
Auburn neighborhood is home to the birthplace Martin Luther
King, Jr.. Operated by the National Park Service, this historic
site contains Dr. King's boyhood home, his crypt, a civil right’s
museum, and the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Attraction: Georgia's Stone Mountain is an enormous granite
rock. There is a small theme park and a large carving on the
mountain.  One of the most famous attractions in the Southeast,
Stone Mountain offers daily and nightly special events, including
a laser show after sundown!

drive-in and has been a part of the Atlanta dining scene since

150-foot-long stainless-steel counter. The white-tiled diner theme is a
 throwback to days when drive-ins ruled the fast food scene.

Attraction: Between the Five Corners MARTA bus/subway
stop and the Coke museum is Underground Atlanta. There
are a six blocks of stores and vendors (not just underground)
typical tourist fare-restaurants, souvenirs, shirts, etc. etc. – just
like the area near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Back
